This Japanese print caught my eye as soon as it came in - the graphic black and white pattern, the little pops of metallic gold and especially the play on scale of the triangles. I knew it would be perfect for a Florence Shirt.
18-116-2 Soaring Print Japanese Cotton Sateen has a very smooth finish. It is lightweight and feels great for spring and summer.
The Florence shirt pattern makes a button down tunic with center front tucks that create a cool lantern shape hem.
The fabric even has little birds in the print!
It took a little bit of planning for the pattern layout to get the right scale of print on each piece. I chose the small scale for the front pocket (sewn over the large scale side) and the small scale for the front and back button plackets. The fronts, backs, sleeves and cuffs each matched in scale on each side so the garment looks consistent from the side views as well. The collar pieces were fine in either scale.
I will admit, I had a little freak out after cutting because I thought I had switched the back pieces... turns out I didn't and I was overthinking it!
Once everything was cut out, I followed the directions as written. It was really a straight-forward project with great results.
