Fashioned in Silk - the Plaza Jacket

I wanted to develop a project for the Fashioned in Silk class that I am teaching for 4 Women of Design in Sacramento in April 2008. I wanted the project to be a learning experience that included a selection of seam and hem finishes that are traditionally uses in silk garments.

The basic jacket is made in the String colorway of the ribbed silk and linen that we offer in the fabric section of this web site. I've inserted an panel of kimono pieces in the center back. I get most of my kimono pieces from Ah! Kimono. The pieces are sewn together using Hong Kong finishes and French seams. The jacket is constructed using turned and stitched seams and the hems are turned and pressed uisng our signature template method. I lengthened the jacket 1 1/2" and made a size extra small, even though I am usually a medium in my patterns.
