Today's Outfit: Get Alex's Look

Today's Outfit: Get Alex's Look

Alex spent some time in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for our Sewing Workshop retreat this past week where she whipped up a great version of the Alex Top. Be inspired and get this look today.

The Alex Top is one of the two styles in the Alex & Olive Tops pattern. It's normally a cowl-collar knit pullover shirt with an inset A-line front detail. It gathers at the center back neckline. There are also curved sides that extend to mid-thigh and it has long sleeves. Alex made a spring version of this top, leaving off the cowl-collar and adjusting the sleeve length to make them short.

Leaving off the cowl collar: Simply cut the neckline according to the pattern and proceed to make a standard Ready-To-Wear knit binding piece for a traditional T-Shirt neckline finish. Here we use our 7/8 rule in order to measure the neckline and cut the piece appropriately. See below for additional instructions.

Adjusting the sleeves: Simply adjust the sleeves using the Lengthen /Shorten line on the pattern and adjust to your desired length. Alex's sleeves are about 10.5 inches long.

Send us your outfits using our patterns and we could feature you on a Get the Look segment.

Wow, thank you. I’ve sewn for years. Literally I’m 61 and my knit neck bindings have never been perfect. I can do a beautiful lawn, batiste or any type of natural fabric binding but nothing with stretch
You’ve given me new hope. I’m going to attack That huge pile of knits in my stash now ??‍♀️??‍♀️?
